Russian shelling has left consumers without power in five regions: what we know
1 May 12:55
As of May 1, some consumers in five regions of Ukraine remain temporarily without power due to Russian shelling of energy infrastructure. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on the situation in the power grid, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The ministry noted that energy workers are operating in emergency mode, and emergency repair work is ongoing around the clock.
Where there is no power due to shelling
Due to damage to energy infrastructure following attacks by the Russian Federation, some consumers in five regions remain without power:
- Donetsk region;
- Mykolaiv region;
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
- Sumy region;
- Kharkiv Oblast.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that these are temporary power outages related to combat operations and damage to the power grid.
Will there be power outage schedules on May 1?
According to the Ministry of Energy, no electricity consumption restrictions are expected on May 1.
In other words, no nationwide power outage schedules are currently expected. However, localized power outages are possible in communities where power lines have been damaged by shelling.
The ministry advises monitoring updates on the official websites of local power companies, as the situation in frontline regions can change rapidly.
Energy workers are on duty around the clock
Emergency crews are working around the clock to restore power to consumers as quickly as possible. Restoration work continues 24/7 where the security situation allows.
In frontline regions, repair work is often complicated by the risk of renewed shelling, mine hazards, and damage to access routes to power facilities.

Ukrainians urged to conserve electricity
Despite the absence of forecasted restrictions for May 1, the Ministry of Energy urges Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly during peak hours.
The heaviest load on the system traditionally falls on:
- the morning hours;
- evening hours.
To reduce the load, avoid turning on several high-power appliances at the same time, and, if possible, shift laundry, water heating, and device charging to daytime or nighttime hours.
Will power outage schedules return this summer?
A scheduled maintenance campaign is currently underway at nuclear power plants in Ukraine. However, a return to widespread power outage schedules this summer is not currently anticipated.
At the same time, the situation will depend on several factors:
- new Russian attacks on the power grid;
- weather conditions;
- consumption levels;
- the state of power generation;
- the pace of the repair campaign.
Therefore, energy officials are urging citizens not to ignore announcements from official sources and to use electricity wisely.
