The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the State Bureau of Investigations and under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, has successfully dismantled two corruption schemes within the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESB).

This was reported by the SBU press service , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

This was made possible by comprehensive measures that led to the arrest of two officials who demanded bribes in exchange for facilitating business operations and helping to avoid criminal liability.

Details of the arrests

Economic Security Bureau Analyst

The first detainee is an analyst who began working at the EBS only in February 2026. He was detained for receiving an unlawful benefit from a Kyiv-based entrepreneur.

In exchange for money, the official helped the businessman obtain a license to store fuel in the company’s warehouses. This indicates systemic problems that can arise even among new employees of the agency.

Senior Detective of the Kyiv Region

The second suspect is a senior detective with the BEB’s Territorial Directorate in the Kyiv region. He demanded a bribe from a person involved in criminal proceedings, promising to help them avoid prosecution. SBU officers detained both officials, which demonstrates the effective work of law enforcement agencies in the fight against corruption.

The detainees are expected to be charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 3 of Article 368: Acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of an unlawful benefit by a public official.
  • Part 3 of Article 369-2: Abuse of influence.

They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

“This case shows that no institution is immune to corruption, and only through the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies can we combat this evil,” the SBU emphasizes.
