Smetanin announced his resignation as head of “Ukroboronprom”

On Tuesday, July 14,Herman Smetanin announced that he had stepped down as CEO of Ukroboronprom. He wrote about this on Telegram, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to Smetanin, it was an “honor” for him to lead Ukraine’s largest defense company. He thanked all employees of the defense conglomerate, as well as Ukraine’s military and political leadership, for their cooperation.
“I am convinced that the main achievement is a strong, professional team both within the company and at the group’s enterprises. These are managers, designers, engineers, technologists, production workers, veterans, and everyone who works every day to achieve results,” he wrote.
In addition, Smetanin wished the “Ukroboronprom” team and his future successor “continued success in carrying out this important national mission.”

At the same time, he did not disclose the reasons for his decision to resign. However, this occurred against the backdrop of the explosion at an ammunition depot in Vyshneve, Kyiv Oblast, following a massive attack by the Russian Federation on July 6. Russia shelled a depot belonging to one of Ukroboronprom’s enterprises, located within a residential area. The explosion caused catastrophic destruction. According to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, 280 residential buildings were damaged in Vyshneve, including 253 single-family homes and 27 apartment buildings.
After Smetanin announced his resignation, the arms manufacturer’s press service reported that while the supervisory board decides on a candidate for the new CEO, Serhiy Boev will serve as acting chairman.
