First Reading: Parliament Passes Bill to Decriminalize Pornography

The Verkhovna Rada passed a bill in its first reading to decriminalize pornographic materials featuring adults. A total of 231 members of parliament voted in favor of the bill, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Bill No. 15294 proposes to increase penalties for the production and distribution of child pornography. It provides for amendments to Articles 301–303 of the Criminal Code.

The bill proposes to increase penalties for the production, sale, import, and transportation of pornographic materials involving minors; the operation of brothels and pimping involving minors or young children; and the coercion of minors into prostitution.
At the same time, the bill proposes to decriminalize the importation, storage, transportation, production, mailing, or other transfer of pornographic materials involving adults.
Members of the Verkhovna Rada have registered this bill for the second time. This is how parliament plans to boost the budget. According to preliminary estimates, the state could collect an additional 1 billion hryvnia in taxes per year.
