14 July 13:26
On July 14, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the extension of martial law and general mobilization for another 90 days. The new period will run from August 2 to October 31, 2026.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
This marks the 20th extension of martial law
A total of 313 members of parliament voted in favor of the law approving the presidential decree on the extension of martial law. This marks the 20th extension of this special legal regime since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The bill was presented in parliament by Yevhen Ostrianskyi, First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
According to him, the extension of martial law is necessary to ensure the country’s defense, counter Russian aggression, and preserve the authority of the military command, military administrations, and other government bodies.

Mobilization was also extended for three months
Following the vote on martial law, the Verkhovna Rada considered a bill to extend the term of general mobilization.
The bill was supported by 311 members of parliament. General mobilization has also been extended for another 90 days—until October 31, 2026.
As Yevhen Ostrianskyi noted, extending mobilization is necessary to ensure the staffing of the Defense Forces and to maintain Ukraine’s defense capability.
Oleksandr Zavitnevych, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, reported that the committee recommended adopting both bills in their entirety at once.
During the discussion, members of parliament also raised the issue of increasing pay for Ukrainian servicemembers, emphasizing the need to strengthen social support for the country’s defenders.
Why is martial law extended every 90 days?
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
In accordance with the law, it is extended by separate presidential decrees, which must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
A similar procedure applies to general mobilization, the duration of which is also extended by a parliamentary decision.
