The heat is subsiding: a meteorologist explains what to expect this weekend and at the end of May

After several days of hot weather, a significant drop in temperatures is expected in Ukraine. As early as this coming weekend and at the start of next week, the weather will become more comfortable due to the arrival of cool air from the Baltic.

Forecaster Natalia Golenia shared this information in a comment to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to her, temperatures in the coming days will remain between 20 and 25 degrees.

“The cool air from the Baltic, which is already heading our way to replace the heat, will bring temperatures to around 20–25 degrees,” the meteorologist explained.

According to the forecaster’s predictions, an even more significant cold snap is possible in the future. Some calculations indicate a new wave of cold air from the north.

“Many calculations indicate that there will be cold air advection from the north—that is, the spread of cold air—and temperatures will drop even further, by 3–5 degrees,” Golenia noted.

The heat will subside in the coming days

According to the meteorologist, the intense heat in Ukraine will be short-lived. In Kyiv, temperatures will begin to drop in the near future.

“Tomorrow it will already be 23°C in Kyiv, though in the south and east it will still be 25–30°C,” she said.

At the same time, several days of cool weather with temperatures below 20 degrees are possible at the end of May.

“By the end of the month, we can expect 3–4 days of cold weather. For this time of year, the temperature range is already up to 20 degrees,” the meteorologist explained.

Natalia Golenia emphasizes: a temperature of around 30 degrees at the end of May is not unusual for Ukraine.

“30 degrees is nothing new for May. It’s practically the end of May already,” she said.

The meteorologist explained that heatwaves in Ukraine usually occur due to warm air flowing in from the southeast, Central Asia, or Africa across the Mediterranean Sea. However, the situation is now changing—warm air will spread to Western Europe, while cool air from Scandinavia and the Baltic region will reach Ukraine.

As a reminder, Europe will be hit by its first serious heat wave in the coming days. Forecasters warn that temperatures in many countries will be significantly higher than the seasonal norm, and new May records are possible in some regions.
