Zelenskyy is preparing to appoint a new ambassador to Washington: the leading candidate has been named

Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of the Office of the President, is a possible candidate for the post of Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing its own sources, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the publication’s source, Pavlo Palisa’s candidacy is already under consideration by the Ukrainian authorities.
“Palis has been under consideration for this position,” the source said.
No official decision regarding the appointment of a new Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. has been announced yet.
Why Palisa’s candidacy has attracted attention
Pavlo Palisa, codenamed “Hunter, ” is one of the most prominent Ukrainian military commanders of the new generation.
Since November 2024, he has served as deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, and prior to that, he commanded:
- the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodny Yar,” which carried out combat missions in the Bakhmut sector;
- the 5th Separate Assault Regiment.
Palis was born in 1985 into a military family. He graduated from the National Defense University of Ukraine and also trained at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
For his participation in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the officer was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine along with the Order of the Golden Star, and he is also a recipient of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
At the Office of the President, he handles issues of national security and defense, liaises with military command, and oversees projects related to the development of Ukraine’s defense sector.
Trump had previously spoken positively about Palisa
A statement by U.S. President Donald Trump drew additional attention to the Ukrainian general’s candidacy; in an interview, Trump called Pavlo Palisa “my favorite soldier in Ukraine.”
At the same time, there is currently no official confirmation that Palisa will head the Ukrainian embassy in Washington.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously launched a large-scale overhaul of the diplomatic corps by signing decrees dismissing a number of Ukrainian ambassadors in various countries around the world.
