First 37, then a sharp drop in temperature: the weather forecast for August 22–24

22 August 02:22

After a hot Saturday, the weather in Ukraine will begin to change dramatically. A cold front will bring rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and a gradual drop in temperature. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

A significant change in weather conditions is expected in Ukraine from August 22 to 24. A cold front will begin moving into the country from Western Europe and will travel eastward.

The change in air masses will cause fluctuations in atmospheric pressure and humidity, as well as a gradual drop in temperature.

Weather on August 22: Heat up to 37 and thunderstorms in the west

On Saturday, August 22, residents of the western regions will be the first to feel the effects of the cold front. There will be brief showers with thunderstorms in some areas, and daytime temperatures will range from 27 to 32 °C.

The rest of Ukraine will see dry and very hot weather. Daytime temperatures will reach 35–37 °C.

The wind will be from the south, gradually shifting to the northwest in the western regions. Wind speeds will range from 7 to 12 m/s, though gusts of up to 15–20 m/s are possible in the west during the day.

Where it will cool down on August 23

On Sunday, August 23, cooler air will spread to most northern and central regions. In the central regions, as well as at night in the north, brief showers and thunderstorms are forecast in some areas.

Temperatures of 21…28 °C are expected during the day across most of Ukraine. In the central regions, temperatures will hover around 30 °C.

At the same time, the east and southeast of the country will still be under the influence of intense heat. In these regions, temperatures may reach 35–37 °C.

Thus, on Sunday, there could be a temperature difference of about 15 degrees between the western and eastern regions of Ukraine.

What Will the Weather Be Like on Independence Day?

On Monday, August 24, a cold front will leave Ukraine. After it passes, the weather will be determined by a high-pressure system.

On Independence Day, dry weather will prevail in all regions. Overnight temperatures will range from 12 to 19 °C, and daytime temperatures will range from 21 to 28 °C.

Thus, following Saturday’s heatwave, with temperatures reaching up to 37 °C, the start of the new week will bring significantly cooler weather across nearly the entire country.

Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region

According to the official forecast from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, August 22 in Kyiv will be dry and hot. Daytime temperatures will reach around 35 °C, with a southerly wind of 7–12 m/s.

In the Kyiv region, temperatures will reach 35–37 °C. On Sunday, as an atmospheric front passes through, cooler air will begin to flow into the Kyiv region, and brief showers are possible in some areas.

Forecasters advise keeping an eye on forecast updates, as the intensity of precipitation and wind gusts may vary in certain areas as the atmospheric front passes through.
