The Israeli military killed Iz ad-Din al-Haddad, who was believed to be one of the main organizers of the attack on October 7, 2023. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, al-Haddad led the military wing of Hamas—the “Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades,” reports "Komersant Ukrainian", citing local media.
“We have eliminated one of the main terrorists responsible for the massacre on October 7,” the head of government stated.
Hamas itself also confirmed al-Haddad’s death. According to Palestinian sources, his wife and daughter were killed alongside the commander in the Israeli strike.
Hamas Attack on Israel
On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian radical Islamist movement Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States, carried out a large-scale attack on Israel. Militants launched a massive rocket barrage against Israel, invaded its territory, and carried out the largest massacre of civilians in the history of the modern State of Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people. The militants also took about 250 hostages and transported them to the Gaza Strip. Some of the hostages were exchanged or released, while others were killed.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas. During the ground operation and bombings of the Gaza Strip, more than 71,000 people were killed, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip. It did not, however, specify how exactly it calculated this statistic, in particular—how many Islamist militants were among the dead, or whether it included the deaths of Palestinians in hospitals from natural causes.
In October 2025, a ceasefire agreement was signed in Sharm el-Sheikh with the mediation of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
