The Lutsk City Council has canceled the prayer before sessions, which was introduced in August 2024.

This was reported by a city council member from the Servant of the People faction, Roman Bondaruk, who initiated the prayer before the sessions, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

As Bondaruk explained, according to the results of a survey in which 21 out of 42 deputies took part, it turned out that the prayer practice did not find sufficient support within the city council.

The Lutsk City Council introduced the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, common to all Christians, in August 2024.

According to Bondaruk, he wanted the deputies to remember “at least for a few minutes” that they had gathered “for the sake of the community, for the sake of common welfare.”

“In the history of our country, faith has always been the basis around which people have united. And today we lack such a unifying element,” he added.

In February 2025, the local edition of Insider Media published a video in which Bondaruk can be heard saying the Our Father in a hurry, confused and stumbling, which makes his colleagues laugh.

On his Facebook page, the deputy apologized for his mistakes and promised to work on not making mistakes again.”
