The Ukrainian Research and Production Association “Practika” and the Spanish company Tecnova S.L. signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Madrid today in the field of production of special and military products. This was announced by the Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Herman Smetanin, reports [Kommersant].

It is about the production of universal and specialized armored vehicles, as well as further joint development of armored vehicles in the Kingdom of Spain.

Earlier, in April, the Spanish manufacturer of special equipment Tecnova announced its intention to launch the production of light tactical vehicles JURA and armored vehicles KOZAK.

What is known about these armored vehicles

DJURA is a universal armored vehicle designed to operate in extreme conditions. There are several configurations. The armored vehicle is designed to perform low-risk tactical tasks and be used by police and Special Operations Forces. It was introduced last year and the first light tactical armored vehicles Dzhura have already been delivered to the Defense Forces. The armored vehicle is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 civilian SUV. According to the military, the vehicle is perfect for delivering a small group of soldiers or ammunition to positions in its luggage compartment.

The KOZAK is an armored vehicle that offers maximum protection and mobility in a robust design. It is ideal for tactical operations, from troop transportation to medical evacuation. Practika produced the first prototype of this armored vehicle back in 2009 on the Iveco Daily 55S18W all-wheel drive chassis. The latest representative of the line is the KOZAK-7 armored vehicle. It is positioned as a purely military vehicle.

What is the importance of cooperation between Ukrainian and Spanish companies?

Earlier it was reported that Tecnova S.L. signed an agreement with Practika to establish Human & Safe Systems, which will carry out licensed production of Ukrainian armored vehicles at the facilities of the Spanish manufacturer in Erencia, La Mancha. The same association will promote them on the European market.

This means that Ukrainian armored vehicles will become available on the global market thanks to production in Spain.

According to experts, given the current ban on the export of Ukrainian weapons, licensed production in Spain could be the solution for a Ukrainian company to enter the foreign market.

Although Ukraine is already preparing to allow arms exports

Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, said the day before that he and his team were preparing a number of regulations that would properly regulate the export of Ukrainian military products. [Kommersant]spoke about this.

According to the MP, this should be a special legal and tax regime that could be used by Ukrainian defense companies.

As a reminder, over the three years of the war, Ukrainian production of military goods has increased from $1 billion in 2022 to over $9 billion in 2024. Ukraine now produces more than 30% of the weapons and ammunition used by the Defense Forces on the battlefield.
