Cold air from Scandinavia is heading toward Ukraine: when will it warm up again?
28 May 14:02
Cool, windy, and unsettled weather is expected to persist in Ukraine over the next few days. The drop in temperature will be caused by cold air flowing in from northern Scandinavia. As a result, in most regions, nighttime temperatures will drop to 4–10 degrees, and daytime temperatures will reach only 11–18 degrees. This was reported by meteorologist Natalia Golenia in an exclusive comment to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to her, Ukraine will experience occasional brief showers, and thunderstorms are still possible in the south. At the same time, temperatures will begin to rise gradually starting Monday.
Cold air from Scandinavia is moving into Ukraine
The meteorologist explained that the cold snap is linked to the arrival of a cold air mass from northern Europe.
“It will be cool because cold air is moving in from the north, all the way from northern Scandinavia. So it will be cool, and there will be brief showers from time to time,” said Natalia Golenia.
According to her, this weather will persist in the coming days. Ukrainians should prepare for cool nights, moderate daytime temperatures, and periodic precipitation.
Where rain and thunderstorms are expected
Unstable weather will cover a significant part of the country. Short-lived showers are possible in various regions, and thunderstorms are also forecast for the south tomorrow.
“Tomorrow, we’ll still have thunderstorms in the south,” the meteorologist noted.
Because of this, residents of southern regions should pay close attention to forecasts and be prepared for possible brief but intense rainfall.

It will be windy in Ukraine
In addition to cooler temperatures and rain, forecasters predict stronger winds. The strongest gusts will be on the Right Bank.
“Windy weather as well. Tomorrow, on the right bank of the country, there will again be gusts of 15–20 meters per second during the day,” reported Natalia Golenia.
Under these conditions, it is advisable to be cautious near trees, billboards, power lines, and old buildings. Drivers should be aware of strong crosswinds, especially on open stretches of road.
What will the temperature be like this weekend?
In the coming days, nighttime temperatures in Ukraine will be quite low for late May. According to Natalia Golenia, nighttime temperatures are expected to range from 4 to 10 degrees.
During the day, air temperatures in most regions will range from 11 to 18 degrees.
“Nighttime temperatures these days will range from 4 to 10 degrees, and daytime temperatures from 11 to 18 degrees. We’re talking about all of Ukraine,” the meteorologist explained.
The warmest weather over the weekend will be in the far west of the country. Specifically, in the Zakarpattia, Lviv, and Volyn regions, temperatures may reach 22 degrees.
“Only in the west, over the weekend—specifically the far west: Zakarpattia, Lviv, and Volyn regions—it could reach up to 22 degrees,” added Golenia.
When will the warm weather return to Ukraine?
A gradual rise in temperature is expected starting Monday. According to the meteorologist, the air will begin to warm up more actively next week.
“It will be warmer starting Monday, with a slow, gradual rise in temperatures next week,” said Natalia Golenia.
However, stable dry weather is not yet forecast. Unstable weather conditions will persist, and short-lived rains and thunderstorms are still possible.
“Unstable weather will persist, with brief showers and thunderstorms. But daytime temperatures will already reach the 28-degree range. And nighttime temperatures will also rise by 3–5 degrees,” the meteorologist noted.
