Starting May 12, 2023, a new feature will be introduced in the “Electronic Border Crossing Queue” (“eQueue”) system that will automatically verify the validity of insurance certificates for commercial vehicles.

This was announced by Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to Oleksiy Kuleba’s Telegram post, the new feature applies to trucks and buses, for which a “Green Card” is a mandatory requirement for crossing the border.

Convenience for drivers

According to Kuleba, the new feature will allow drivers to check the validity of their insurance certificate even before arriving at the border crossing point. This will help avoid situations where it is impossible to cross the border due to a missing or inactive policy.

If the insurance certificate has not yet taken effect at the time of booking, the queue entry will remain active until it receives the “Entry” status.

In addition to checking the validity of the insurance, the feature also allows users to view the insurance expiration date in their personal account.

What is a Green Card

A Green Card is an international motor third-party liability insurance policy for drivers traveling abroad by car.

It confirms that the driver has third-party liability insurance in other countries.

What is “eCherga”

“eCherga” is a Ukrainian electronic booking system for border crossings by freight transport and buses, launched by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine in collaboration with the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine.

The service allows drivers to book a border crossing time in advance and track the queue’s progress online. It was created to reduce congestion at border crossing points and combat chaotic “live” queues.
