Anti-immigrant panic: Novak explains why Ukrainians shouldn’t worry
1 June 18:26
The hysteria surrounding migrant workers on Ukrainian social media is part of a Russian disinformation campaign. Its goal is to sow discord within Ukrainian society by exploiting a sensitive issue against the backdrop of the war and mobilization. Economist Andriy Novak made this statement on the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, as of today, only 11,000 foreigners are officially employed in Ukraine. By comparison, in 2021, foreigners received over 20,000 work permits in Ukraine.

In other words, there are fewer migrants, but more talk about them.
“I’ll explain it very simply: this is yet another Russian disinformation campaign. To sow discord in Ukraine, in society. It doesn’t matter on what topic, but to sow it,” Novak noted.
He explained that Russia itself is facing a labor shortage due to mobilization and the exodus of its population abroad. That is precisely why Russian propaganda is trying to shift this narrative to Ukraine through social media, bots, and artificial intelligence.
By the way, we should add that the Center for Countering Disinformation has also stated that narratives about the mass resettlement of Hindus to Ukraine are part of Russian disinformation.
“This is 99% Russian disinformation,” the economist concluded.
