Zaporizhzhia Cable Plant Halts Operations: Russian Strike Destroyed the Plant’s Production Facilities

6 July 19:38

A Russian airstrike on July 4 effectively destroyed the Zaporizhzhia Cable Plant. Following the extensive damage, the plant—which produced exclusively civilian goods—was forced to completely suspend operations. This was reported by the local publication “ZaBor,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The occupiers launched the strike precisely during a shift change, when the largest number of people were on the premises.

“They struck during the shift change. Employees of the plant and residents of nearby buildings who were heading to shelters on the plant’s grounds were injured,” the publication writes.

As a reminder, on July 4, Russian troops launched a series of strikes on Zaporizhzhia using guided aerial bombs, FPV drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to the plant, Russian troops attacked the facility precisely during the shift change. Some workers were finishing their workday, while others were just starting their shift. In addition to plant employees, residents of the surrounding area who were heading to a public shelter when the air raid siren sounded were also caught in the attack.

“There is also a public shelter on the plant’s grounds, which is used during air raid alerts not only by employees but also by residents of the surrounding area. At the time of the attack, local residents were heading to the shelter, and some of them were also injured,” the publication reports.

As a result of the attack, the plant sustained critical damage. Plant officials stated that production facilities were so severely damaged that it is currently impossible to continue operations. At the same time, it is emphasized that the Zaporizhzhia Cable Plant produced exclusively civilian products and had no connection to military production. The company has now officially announced a complete suspension of operations. It is not yet clear when production will be able to resume.

The Zaporizhzhia Cable Plant (PJSC “ZKP”), “Zaporizhkakabel,” is the largest national enterprise specializing in the production of cable and wire products. Located in the Dnipro district of Zaporizhzhia, the plant is a leading supplier of cable and wire products to customers in the electrical engineering industry.
