EVA’s losses in Brovary total 1 billion hryvnia: co-owner proposes a new firefighting system

On August 20, a Russian missile strike completely destroyed the EVA network’s distribution center in Brovary. Fortunately, no employees were injured, but the company estimates property damage alone at up to 1 billion hryvnias. Ruslan Shostak, president of TERWIN Corporation and co-owner of Rush LLC, believes that a significant portion of the damage caused by the Russian attacks could have been mitigated through the use of robotic systems and drones for firefighting during air raid alerts. He shared this on his Facebook page, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Ruslan Shostak said that over the years of the full-scale invasion, his business has already lost five large warehouses and 15 stores.

“A significant portion of these facilities was not destroyed immediately upon impact. Localized fires broke out after the strike. But due to the air raid alert and the risk of follow-up strikes, rescue workers were unable to immediately begin full-scale firefighting operations. During that time, the fire spread and, within a few hours, destroyed whatever might have survived the initial strike,” Shostak emphasized.

The entrepreneur stressed that the decision to prohibit rescue workers from risking their lives during an air raid alert is absolutely correct, as human life is the highest priority. At the same time, he raised questions about the lack of modern technological solutions in the fifth year of the war. Shostak noted that after the loss of the seventh depot, he conducted a detailed analysis of the fire response system following Russian attacks.

“We preliminarily estimate that 50% of infrastructure losses could have been minimized if specialized robots, unmanned ground vehicles, and drones had been widely used for initial fire suppression during air raid alerts,” stated the co-owner of EVA.

He notes that Ukraine is currently developing and deploying unique robotic systems for the front lines, and the country has every opportunity to become a global leader in the production of robotic civil defense systems.

“This could become yet another Ukrainian technology sector born out of war that the whole world will need tomorrow. But today, I don’t see a systematic government program that would address this issue on a national scale. How many more businesses and homes must burn to the ground before such a program is implemented?” the businessman writes.
