The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked an oil terminal in St. Petersburg: what are the consequences?
3 June 09:36
On the night of June 3, Ukrainian drones attacked the Leningrad Oblast in Russia, according to the region’s governor, Alexander Drozdov. The raid lasted from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. In total, according to Drozdzenko, 50 drones were shot down during that time. The governor did not provide any information about the consequences of the airstrike. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.
According to media reports, explosions were heard in the Admiralteysky, Vasileostrovsky, Primorsky, and Krasnosilsky districts of St. Petersburg. In the Kirovsky district, the attack caused a fire at the “St. Petersburg Oil Terminal”—Russia’s largest oil transshipment complex on the Baltic Sea. It has a throughput capacity of 12.5 million tons per year and includes 21 storage tanks for petroleum products. The facility is of strategic importance for ensuring Russia’s security.

The attack on the terminal occurred on the opening day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which will take place from June 3 to 6. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is expected to speak at the event. “Expoforum,” where the event will be held, is located 17 km from the oil terminal that was targeted. Amid the drone attack, more than 29 flights were delayed at Pulkovo Airport.
The city of Michurinsk in the Tambov region was also attacked last night.
“As a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ drone strikes, an apartment building, a library, and an art school—all of which had their windows shattered—as well as industrial buildings at a manufacturing plant were damaged. There were no casualties,” said the region’s governor, Yevgeny Pervyshchev.
As Astra has established, the drones targeted the “Progress” plant, which manufactures equipment for aviation and missile control systems. This facility had already been attacked in February of this year, in June 2025, and in December 2024.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 354 drones were shot down over Russian territory last night. In total, air defense systems intercepted drones over 16 regions, including the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Tula, and Moscow regions. Starting the evening of June 2, Rosaviatsia restricted operations at Moscow’s Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports, as well as airports in Kaluga, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, and Pskov.
