Ceasefire between the US and Iran
The U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on the night of April 8. Donald Trump stated that the agreement was a “complete and total victory” for the U.S. Tehran, in turn, viewed the ceasefire as its own victory and announced the start of negotiations with Washington.
The White House announced that Israel had also joined the ceasefire, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clarified that it does not apply to Lebanon, where Israel is carrying out strikes in response to rocket attacks by Hezbollah militants.
During talks in Islamabad on April 11, the American and Iranian delegations failed to reach a compromise on nuclear issues and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
