Healthcare reform in Ukraine: The World Bank provides $454 million

Ukraine will receive $454 million from the World Bank to develop the healthcare sector. The funds are needed for priority financing under the medical guarantees program. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Ukraine will receive $454 million from the World Bank to develop the healthcare sector. This will support the government’s efforts to prioritize funding under the medical guarantee program,” Shmyhal said.
According to him, the money will be provided under the THRIVE project, which aims to reform the health care system and improve its efficiency. The project is funded by the Government of Japan, the World Bank, and a grant from the URTF.
“THRIVE is part of a large-scale international support for Ukraine, which also covers education, transport, energy, the agricultural sector and other sectors affected by Russian aggression,” the Prime Minister added.
Denys Shmyhal thanked the partners for their support:
“I am grateful to the leadership of the World Bank, the Government of Japan and all partners for their important and timely assistance. Despite the challenges, we continue our consistent movement to strengthen and develop Ukraine.”
