Russian aggression has caused Ukraine tens of billions in cultural losses
16 June 19:28
Ukrainian culture has suffered significant losses due to Russian aggression. The total amount of direct losses has reached 4 billion euros, while indirect losses amount to 24 billion dollars.
This was reported by Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna during a telethon, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russians have damaged 1,913 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine and 2,573 cultural infrastructure facilities.
On the night of June 15 alone, when Russian troops attacked Kyiv with drones and missiles, another 13 cultural sites were damaged.
“These included UNESCO World Heritage sites, monuments of national significance, cultural institutions, and arts education facilities. Russia attacks us every day and specifically targets our culture because they are trying to erase our identity, to erase us as a nation,” says Berezhna.
Tetyana Berezhna called on UNESCO to “call a spade a spade” following the organization’s statements regarding the Russian strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which did not explicitly name the perpetrator.
