Ukraine establishes first military commandant’s office in Kursk region (video)

Ukraine has set up a military commandant’s office in the Kursk region (Russia). This was announced by the head of the command , Oleksandr Syrsky, during a meeting of the Stavka on Thursday, 15 August, reports [Kommersant].

“The military commandant’s office is needed to meet the needs of civilians, as well as to evacuate them from dangerous areas,” Syrsky said.

General Eduard Moskalev was appointed as the head of the military commandant’s office on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces .

Syrsky also confirmed that since the start of the operation in Kursk region, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have advanced 35 kilometres, bringing 82 settlements under Ukrainian control. Since the beginning of the day, the Defence Forces have advanced from 500 metres to 1.5 kilometres.

Human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets added that the commandant’s offices are needed to ensure coordination among the military units there, including for the Armed Forces’ voluntary position in providing humanitarian aid to the local population.

What is known about General Eduard Moskalev

Major General Moskalev is one of Ukraine’s leading military commanders, with experience in commanding strategic groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In 2022, he became the Commander of the Joint Forces Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Commander of the operational and tactical group in the east; previously, he was Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the troops of the operational command “East” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As of March-April 2023, he was the Commander of the Odesa Joint Forces Operation Centre.

He was awarded the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, II and III class, for personal courage and heroism in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
