Ukrposhta is selling off its last large batch of Soviet-era cars: which models are available

“Ukrposhta,” Ukraine’s national postal operator, has announced the sale of its last large batch of decommissioned Soviet-era vehicles. Among them are well-known models such as GAZ, Gazelle, Zhiguli, Volga, and UAZ.

Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilianskyy provided details of the sale, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, of the 316 vehicles being put up for sale, 75 are foreign-made. Among them are brands such as Land Cruiser, Volkswagen, and Suzuki.

Reducing the average age of the fleet

Ihor Smiliansky emphasized that since 2016, Ukrposhta has not purchased a single vehicle for its management, but has significantly reduced the average age of its fleet—from 18 years to 6. He noted that all the “luxury” cars currently being sold were purchased at a time when management cared more about themselves than about the quality and timeliness of parcel delivery. At present, this figure has reached 97.9%.

The CEO also stated that all proceeds from the sale of the vehicles will be allocated to the restoration of Ukrposhta’s vehicle fleet.

In total, since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Ukrposhta has lost 418 vehicles, 281 of which were lost in 2022 during the temporary occupation of Ukrainian territory by the enemy.

Auction Results

Ukrposhta has already held its second auction on the Prozorro.Sales platform, during which 716 units of decommissioned Soviet- and post-Soviet-era vehicles were sold. The total amount received from the sale was 9 million hryvnias.

As a reminder, starting April 1, Ukrposhta updated some of its parcel delivery rates. The company attributed these changes to rising operational costs, which increased due to higher fuel prices, infrastructure maintenance, and network operations during energy crises.

In addition, Ukrposhta has introduced a new model of cooperation with business clients. Entrepreneurs will be able to use all of the company’s logistics services under a single contract instead of several separate agreements.
