12 August 2024 18:57
At the end of last week, Ukrainians started consuming more electricity than usual. The reasons for this are reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to information from “Ukrenergo.
The national energy company says that consumption at the end of the week and on Monday morning increased compared to the same period last week. The reason is the heat in the southern regions.
Thus, on 11 August, Sunday, consumption peaked in the evening. It was 2.7% higher than the evening peak last Sunday, 4 August. And on the morning of Monday, 12 August, the consumption level was 1.3% higher than the corresponding figure for the same time last Monday, 5 August.
Ukrenergo experts also explained that the power system is still recovering from eight massive Russian attacks, and emergency and scheduled repairs are underway at power facilities. Ukrainians were urged to consume electricity sparingly throughout the day during the heatwave.
Situation in Ukraine’s power system: what to expect in autumn
Earlier, DTEK reported earlierthat power cuts in Kyiv are not planned until mid-October, provided there are no new attacks on the energy infrastructure or abnormal heat.
This gives hope for a stable energy supply situation in the coming months. However, experts warn that possible threats, such as new attacks or weather anomalies, could change the situation.
“It’s impossible to restore everything quickly, so the schedules may be delayed until the end of the next heating season. Power engineers are doing their best to keep people supplied with electricity, but we should prepare for different scenarios,” DTEK stressed.
