Murder in a funicular in Kyiv: a teenager was attacked by a police officer

The State Bureau of Investigation has opened a criminal investigation into the death of a young man in a Kyiv funicular. The man who attacked the teenager, causing fatal wounds to his neck, worked for the State Protection Department. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation, Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
on 7 April, a conflict arose at the station of the capital’s funicular between a man who serves as a driver in the State Protection Department and a minor. After getting out of the carriage at the upper station, the law enforcement officer pushed the teenager. He fell, smashed his head against the glass, and suffered a fatal cut to his neck. The minor died at the scene.
“The detained law enforcement officer has already been suspended from his duties. His command is providing full assistance in conducting urgent investigative actions,”
– the SBI stressed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detained law enforcement officer on suspicion of premeditated murder (Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code) is being decided.

The man may face 7 to 15 years in prison.
TheState Protection Department of Ukraine notes that the serviceman was taken into custody.
“Criminal proceedings have been opened over the incident and an internal official investigation has been ordered, the circumstances of the incident are being investigated. The State Protection Department of Ukraine is already providing all necessary assistance to law enforcement agencies and will assist in the pre-trial investigation in every possible way,”
– the department added.
According to the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region, the detainee was born in 1994.


The capital’s public media write that in the evening, a drunk man in a military uniform started harassing Maksym and his friends on Poshtova Square.
He followed them into a funicular carriage and started a conversation with the question “Are you ready to pay your debt to your homeland?”. The young man replied that he was.
After leaving the funicular car at the upper station, the aggressor pushed Maksym from behind. The young man broke the glass with his head, and one of the fragments cut his carotid artery. The boy bled to death.

The Ukrainian football club Chaika in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, where the young man studied, confirmed to BBC Ukraine that the boy’s name is Maxim.
“This is a schoolboy from Obolon, he played in our team at the Ukrainian championship. We found out about what happened from his friends who were also there (at the funicular station – Ed.),”
– said head coach Bohdan, who knew the teenager personally.
