Terra Drone Corporation, a leading Japanese drone development company, has made a strategic investment through its subsidiary Terra Inspectioneering in the Ukrainian defense company WinnyLab LLC, which develops and manufactures interceptor drones. This was announced in a press release from the company , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Thanks to this investment, Terra Drone will add to its existing capabilities for rapid response within a short range the ability to intercept fixed-wing aircraft suitable for long-range and extended-duration operations, which will further accelerate the development of its multi-layered defense system,” the statement reads.

As noted in the release, several companies in Ukraine have already demonstrated the successful operation of missile-type drones capable of close-range interception. However, to ensure protection over a wider area and at earlier stages, there is a growing need for more affordable solutions with longer-range capabilities that can detect and neutralize threats from greater distances.

This investment builds on the company’s previous investments in Amazing Drones, a developer of interceptor drones in Ukraine.

“By combining the capabilities of fixed-wing interceptor drones for large-scale defense with Terra Drone’s global coverage, we aim to bring reliable, combat-proven technologies to markets around the world and contribute to the security and stability of the international community,” Terra Drone CEO Toru Tokushige is quoted as saying in the press release.

Investment Objective

According to the press release, the investment in this company is being made because WinnyLab has successfully developed an electric fixed-wing interceptor drone with long-range interception capabilities, which combines long-duration patrols with high-speed and precise interception, even in extremely harsh combat conditions where communication jamming and GPS failure are common.

Key features of the new “Terra A2” interceptor drone

The company’s fixed-wing electric interceptor features advanced aerodynamic engineering and an optimized airframe design, enabling it to reach a maximum speed of 312 km/h, exceeding the generally accepted speed of approximately 200 km/h for Shahed-type drones, while providing a wide flight range of up to 75 km. In addition, thanks to comprehensive optimization of battery capacity, engine efficiency, wing design, and drag reduction, it achieves a flight duration of over 40 minutes.

The aircraft is also designed to operate in coordination with radar systems, allowing for high-precision positioning of both interceptors and targets, thereby enhancing interception effectiveness against incoming threats. This makes it a highly practical solution capable of supporting both wide-area surveillance and rapid response missions.

“Fixed-wing interceptor drones play a central role in ensuring the defense capability to ‘neutralize threats before they arrive,’ providing: long-range patrols and surveillance, early detection and tracking of targets, sustained interception response, and neutralization of threats before they close in at close range,” the statement reads.

In March, Terra Drone announced plans to scale up its operations in Ukraine and expand the use of technological expertise gained in real combat conditions for the further development of international projects.

During the agreement between Terra Drone and Amazing Drones, it was noted that the company plans to accelerate the development and delivery of unmanned systems, including interceptor drones, FPV drones, reconnaissance drones, and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs).

Terra Drone Corporation is an international technology company headquartered in Japan and one of the world leaders in unmanned technologies and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). Its main areas of activity include surveying, inspection, agricultural technology, and unmanned traffic management (UTM) systems. In addition, Terra Drone’s solutions are used in the energy, construction, oil and gas, chemical, and agricultural sectors.

WinnyLab is a Ukrainian defense technology company specializing in the development of unmanned aerial vehicles and practical autonomous solutions.

According to YouControl data, the company was registered in February 2026; Olga Bigun is the CEO and beneficial owner.
