Zelenskyy Wants to Invite King Charles III to Visit Ukraine: What We Know

9 June 14:09

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to invite King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on a state visit to Ukraine later this year, according to the British newspaper The Guardian, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Today, I really want to invite him (the king—ed.). I don’t know how that would work from a security standpoint. Yes, of course, we really want to see him in Ukraine. I don’t know how it will work out this year, or if it’s even possible, but, of course, we want to see him,” he said in an interview with the publication.

This would make the monarch the highest-ranking member of the royal family to visit Kyiv since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Zelenskyy noted that he has a close relationship with the king, whom he has met on several occasions, particularly when the king publicly expressed his support following Zelenskyy’s high-profile visit to the White House last year.

Zelenskyy noted that Charles continues to support Ukraine but declined to disclose exactly how. “His Majesty should answer such questions,” he said.

But he added: “We have a very good relationship, you know. This morning, when I was on the phone with my wife, with all due respect to Keir (Starmer – IF-U), but my wife, of course, first conveyed her best regards to His Majesty, and then, of course, to the Prime Minister. So, of course, we, like Ukraine, love His Majesty.”

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne are the only active members of the royal family who have visited Ukraine since 2022.

However, Prince Harry has visited the country three times, including last September, when he stated that he wanted to do “everything possible” to help rehabilitate thousands of servicemen who were wounded during the war.

As reported, on Monday, Charles III received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Windsor Castle. This is Zelenskyy’s fourth audience with Charles III; the king has repeatedly expressed his support for Ukraine.
