A state of heightened readiness in the energy sector was declared due to shortages and rising prices of petroleum products in the country, caused by regional logistics issues and the conflict in the Middle East. This is stated in a press release from the Moldovan Ministry of Energy, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The Moldovan government has restricted the export and re-export of petroleum products as part of the heightened readiness regime in the energy sector, which has been introduced for 30 days, the statement reads.

Specifically, to obtain a permit to export petroleum products from the port of Giurgiulești, domestic reserves of at least 7,500 metric tons of diesel fuel and 2,000 metric tons of gasoline must be established.

“Citizens should also be aware that diesel fuel will not be sold in containers larger than 40 liters, with the exception of farmers, to whom this restriction does not apply. This decision is necessary to prevent speculative purchases,” the statement reads.

Diesel fuel consumption in government institutions must be reduced by 20%, with the exception of essential services.

At the same time, economic and organizational measures are being implemented to stimulate the import of petroleum products. In particular, for the duration of the heightened readiness regime, the maximum trade markup has been increased by $25 per metric ton, and the formula for calculating the ceiling price for diesel fuel will be temporarily adjusted to increase the supplier’s markup.

At the same time, expedited customs clearance for imported petroleum products and priority access to rail transport for their suppliers are being introduced.

Earlier, it was reported that on July 28, 2026, the Moldovan government announced its intention to restructure and downsize the workforce of Moldovagaz JSC—a subsidiary of Gazprom that distributes natural gas to domestic consumers.
