Russian X-101 missile strayed into Poland: new details of the nighttime incident

Russia’s massive missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 30 had consequences not only for Ukrainian regions. In neighboring Poland, air raid sirens sounded during the night, and an unidentified object fell in the Lublin Voivodeship, leaving a crater about ten meters in diameter.
The Ukrainian side claims it was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, while Polish authorities are still conducting an official investigation and have not announced any final conclusions. "Komersant Ukrainian" has compiled all the information currently available.
What Happened in Poland

According to the Polish military, an unidentified aerial object was detected in the country’s airspace at 3:40 a.m. The incident was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
An F-16 fighter jet was scrambled to intercept it, but the target disappeared from radar approximately six minutes later.
Subsequently, a Mi-24 helicopter identified the probable crash site near the village of Tarnava-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship.
According to Polish media reports, the object crashed in a field about two kilometers from residential areas.
The impact created a crater about 10 meters in diameter.
Local residents reported hearing a powerful explosion that shook the windows of their homes.
The following arrived at the scene:

- bomb disposal experts;
- military personnel.
The Polish website bilgoraj.com.pl released CCTV footage that allegedly captures the moment the object fell.
A powerful explosion can be heard in the video, and the timestamps indicate that the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. Polish time.
Ukraine Claims It Was a Russian X-101 Missile
Andriy Sibiga,Ukraine’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that it was a Russian X-101 cruise missile—launched during a massive Russian attack on Ukraine—that violated Polish airspace.
“Last night, a Russian X-101 cruise missile crossed into Polish airspace during a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, violating NATO airspace,” Sibiga said.
According to Sibiga, this incident demonstrates that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is important not only for Ukraine but also for all of Europe.
“This is yet another compelling piece of evidence that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is now an urgent necessity and serves as a guarantee of protection for the entire Euro-Atlantic community,” the minister emphasized.

Poland has not yet confirmed the type of object
Despite the Ukrainian side’s statement, Polish authorities have not yet announced the final results of the investigation.
At the same time, Polish media, citing government sources, report that authorities are tentatively leaning toward the theory that it was a Russian missile that crashed.
Explosive ordnance disposal teams are continuing to examine the crash site.
Once the forensic analysis is complete, the Polish side is expected to officially announce the type of object found.
Donald Tusk convened an emergency meeting
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the country’s airspace had been violated.
Due to the incident, the head of government:
- canceled his planned visit to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship;
- urgently convened a coordination group;
- and brought in the Minister of Defense and the heads of the relevant agencies.
According to Tusk, the government is constantly receiving updated information regarding the investigation into the incident.
The incident was the result of the largest-scale attack by the Russian Federation
On the night of July 30, Russia carried out one of its largest combined attacks on Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy used 74 missiles and 284 attack drones.
The main targets were the Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Sumy, Vinnytsia, and Mykolaiv regions, as well as other areas.
It was during this attack, according to Ukrainian sources, that one of the Russian cruise missiles may have violated Polish airspace.
