An earthquake struck the Poltava region: what are the consequences?

A barely perceptible earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 (on the Richter scale) was recorded in the Poltava region. The epicenter of the tremors was located at a depth of four kilometers. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the Main Center for Special Control.

The earthquake was recorded on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 06:39:39 Kyiv time.

According to experts, the source of the tremors was located in the Poltava district of the Poltava region, within the territory of the Dykanka territorial community.

The coordinates of the epicenter were:

  • latitude: 49.84° N
  • longitude: 34.25° E

“According to the earthquake classification, it is classified as barely perceptible,” the Special Monitoring Center noted.

Scientists also asked citizens to report their sensations if they felt the tremors.
