Festivities in downtown Washington, D.C., scheduled for Saturday, July 4, to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, were canceled due to a thunderstorm. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
According to media reports, just a few hours before U.S. President Donald Trump’s scheduled speech, city officials were forced to cancel all events due to weather conditions.
For his part, the president stated on the social media platform Truth Social that his speech would take place as soon as the thunderstorm ended and urged attendees to wait for it.
“It’s Saturday night! Let’s have some fun, even if we have to stay up late,” Trump wrote.
Earlier, the Washington, D.C., city government also canceled the annual Independence Day parade due to extreme heat exceeding 46 degrees.
Some visitors were escorted out by police
Organizers urged visitors to leave the National Mall in Washington and seek shelter from the storm in nearby museums and government buildings.
There was temporary confusion at the site of the festivities: some visitors refused to leave the area, hoping to catch a glimpse of President Trump. They were forcibly escorted off the premises by police officers.
