The court eased Shufrich’s pretrial detention: house arrest instead of detention

16 April 19:31

The court has changed the pretrial detention measure for MP Nestor Shufrich. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced this on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Instead of detention, he was placed under 24-hour house arrest with an electronic monitoring device.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the decision is not subject to appeal.

The Prosecutor’s Office’s Position

Prosecutors opposed the easing of the preventive measure.

The office emphasizes:

  • the alleged crimes are serious,
  • specifically involving treason,
  • and the risks, in the prosecution’s view, remain significant.

What is he suspected of?

According to the investigation, in 2023, Nestor Shufrich was charged with treason.

Specifically:

  • he allegedly collaborated with an FSB agent—Vladimir Sivkovich—
  • and carried out his orders.

Later, another charge was added:

  • financing the Russian National Guard in occupied Crimea.

Case developments

Further developments:

  • September 2024 — the indictment was submitted to the court
  • January 2026 — bail set at 33 million hryvnia
  • March 2026 — the court extended the detention until May 9
  • April 2026 — the preventive measure was changed to house arrest

What this means

The court’s decision indicates:

  • that preventive measures can be reviewed even in high-profile cases,
  • a balance between the prosecution’s arguments and the court’s assessment of risks.

At the same time:

  • the case has not yet been concluded on its merits,
  • and the charges remain in effect.
