The First Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, may be appointed as the new head of the Cabinet, according to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak of the Voice party, [Komersant] reports.
According to him, the President’s Office has already decided to dismiss the current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and reformat the entire government.
The MP wrote about this in his Telegram channel, citing three independent sources.
“The government has a tradition of dismissing Shmyhal every summer. This happened in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and especially actively in 2024. And now, this weekend, the decision has finally been made,” he wrote.
According to Zhelezniak, the reshuffle is due to several factors:
- loss of support from the government, particularly among the deputies;
- serious miscalculations in economic and budgetary policy;
- the need to demonstrate renewal, given the absence of elections in the near future.
The MP noted that Speaker Dmytro Razumkov could collect 150 votes to pass a motion of no confidence in the government. However, the government does not want to give the initiative to the opposition, so it plans to be proactive.
In order to implement the resignation under martial law, it will be necessary to amend Article 10 of the Law on the Legal Regime of Martial Law, which currently prohibits the termination of the powers of state authorities.
“After that, Shmyhal will voluntarily resign. And the final stage is the appointment of Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister and the formation of a new government,” Zheleznyak summarized.
