Apple Is Once Again the World’s Most Valuable Company — Why Nvidia Lost Its Top Spot

18 July 05:53

Apple has regained its title as the world’s most valuable company, overtaking chipmaker Nvidia. The change in leadership came amid investors’ reassessment of the prospects for the artificial intelligence market and a correction in tech stocks.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Reuters.

Apple has once again topped the list of the world’s most valuable companies

At the close of trading on July 17, Apple’s market capitalization reached $4.88 trillion, while Nvidia’s value fell to $4.86 trillion after the company’s stock dropped by approximately 3.5%.

Thus, for the first time since April of last year, Apple has regained the top spot among the world’s most valuable companies.

Why investors have regained faith in Apple

Analysts believe that investor sentiment has begun to shift. While over the past year the market was almost entirely focused on companies that directly benefited from the artificial intelligence boom, attention is now shifting to businesses capable of monetizing AI through their own products and ecosystems.

Tony Meadows, Head of Investment Strategy at BRI Wealth Management, noted that Apple had long been considered an outsider in the field of artificial intelligence due to its lack of large-scale investments in its own language models.

However, investors now see the company’s strengths elsewhere:

  • Apple’s robust ecosystem;
  • the development of digital services;
  • the integration of AI into devices;
  • its massive iPhone user base.

Siri has become one of the key factors

Last month, Apple unveiled a long-awaited update to its voice assistant, Siri, which now features new AI-powered capabilities.

The company expects that the upgraded service will help it close the gap with competitors and offer users a more personalized experience.

Analysts also note that Apple has a significant advantage thanks to the personal data stored on the iPhone. At the same time, the company must balance the development of artificial intelligence with its traditionally high standards for privacy protection.

Why Nvidia Lost the Top Spot

Despite losing its leadership position, Nvidia remains a key player in the global artificial intelligence market.

It is the company’s graphics processing units (GPUs) that power most modern generative AI models and data centers.

However, in July, investors began to more closely evaluate the long-term sustainability of the rapid growth of semiconductor manufacturers. This led to a correction in the stock prices of many companies in the industry, including Nvidia.

Benjamin Hall, Vice President of Alpha Research at Segal Marco Advisors, emphasized that Nvidia will continue to be one of the main beneficiaries of the development of artificial intelligence.

The AI market is entering a new phase

Experts note that investors are increasingly turning their attention not only to chip manufacturers but also to companies that can effectively utilize artificial intelligence in their own products.

This opens up new opportunities for Apple, Microsoft, memory manufacturers, and other tech companies that are integrating AI into their services.

At the same time, competition for leadership in the global technology market will only intensify.
