Russia fired a missile at a foreign vessel in a port in the Odesa region—there are casualties

On the evening of July 17, Russian occupation forces attacked a civilian vessel flying the flag of the Marshall Islands in the Odesa region: four crew members were injured. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.

Russia Attacked a Civilian Vessel in the Odesa Region

According to Oleg Kipper, the Russian army launched a missile strike on port infrastructure in the Odesa region in the evening.

A civilian vessel flying the Marshall Islands flag was hit.

The attack damaged the vessel’s superstructure, after which a fire broke out on board.

At the time of the attack, there were 17 crew members on board.

All sailors were promptly evacuated.

According to the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration:

  • four crew members were injured;
  • all received medical care;
  • none of the injured required hospitalization.

There are no reports of fatalities.

Russia continues to attack port infrastructure

In recent days, Russian forces have significantly intensified their strikes on Odesa and the surrounding region.

Port infrastructure remains one of the main targets of Russian attacks, as it plays a key role in the operation of Ukraine’s maritime corridor and the export of goods.

Yet another strike on a foreign civilian vessel once again highlights the dangers of navigation in the Black Sea.

Russia attacked Odesa the day before

On the night of July 17, Russian forces also launched an attack on Odesa.

Two people were killed in the attack. Among the victims was a first-aid instructor with the Ukrainian Red Cross, who was on the street with her children.

Law enforcement and rescue workers continue to document the aftermath of the latest Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure in the Odesa region.
