RELEASE

The Ukrainian studio GSC Game World has released the first major story expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl. “The Price of Hope” is now available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. At the same time, a major free Update 2.0 has been released for all owners of the base game, reports "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the company’s press release.

On August 20, 2026, GSC Game World announced the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: The Price of Hope. The expansion expands the universe of the base game and offers a new non-linear story with dozens of hours of gameplay.

According to the developers, players can expect new stories, characters, and locations, as well as the familiar atmosphere of the Zone.

“Embark on a new journey through the Zone with this massive, non-linear expansion that will provide you with dozens of hours of thrilling gameplay. You’ll encounter chilling stories, complex characters, and the familiar atmosphere of decay… where even in the darkest moments, there’s always room for a glimmer of hope,” reads a statement from GSC Game World.

A New Story for Skif and the Clash Between “Duty” and “Freedom”

The events of *The Price of Hope* unfold parallel to the main game’s storyline. Players once again take on the role of Skiff—the protagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

At the heart of the new story is the long-standing conflict between two factions in the Zone. “Duty” views the Zone as a deadly threat that must be isolated and ultimately destroyed. “Freedom,” on the other hand, views it as a unique gift that must be explored and used for the common good.

“For some time, this tension was held in check by a fragile truce. But such agreements rarely last long,” the developers note.

In the expansion, players will be able to explore the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the labyrinths of the Iron Forest, and previously unknown locations. The game will also feature new weapons and gear to help Skif confront mutants, anomalies, and other dangers of the Zone.

Game Director and CEO of GSC Game World, Yevgen Grigorovich, noted that while working on the expansion, the team allowed itself to experiment more and make bold creative decisions.

“While working on *The Price of Hope*, we allowed ourselves to experiment more. To take risks. To surprise. Sometimes that meant trying things we’d never done before. Sometimes—it meant making bold creative decisions simply because we believed in their ability to make the experience even more unforgettable. Above all, we strove to create something that would truly captivate the series’ loyal fans. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts,” he said.

Update 2.0 was released alongside the expansion

Along with the release of “The Price of Hope,” GSC Game World has released a major Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. It is available for free on all platforms for every owner of the base game.

The update migrates S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to Unreal Engine 5.5.4 and significantly changes the visuals and behavior of the Zone.

Among the new features are an updated lighting system, improved artificial intelligence, three types of binoculars, new weapons and attachments, as well as flexible “My Rules” difficulty customization.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: The Price of Hope is included in the Ultimate Edition of the base game. The expansion can also be purchased separately for $29.99/€29.99, subject to regional pricing.

The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

GSC Game World is a Ukrainian video game development company founded in 1995. The studio is best known for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and “Cossacks” series.
