On Friday, August 21, Russian troops struck the largest shopping complex in Kryvyi Rih, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to Oleksandr Vilkul, chairman of the city’s Defense Council, and Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to Vilkul, as of 7:00 p.m., at least six people were killed and 103 were injured (including 11 children) as a result of the attack. Twenty-seven of the injured are in critical condition (including three children).
“One 14-year-old girl is being transferred by the intensive care team to the regional children’s hospital with a traumatic brain injury,” the post states.
A fire broke out inside the shopping center, and emergency rescue operations have begun at the scene.

As Mykola Lukashuk, chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, clarified, the shopping center that was attacked is located in the very center of the city.
“In broad daylight. In a place where there are always a lot of people. Where families are. Where children are. This is deliberate terror against civilians,” Lukashuk stated.
According to Vilkul, Russian troops attacked the shopping complex with a strike drone. He later reported a second attack on the same target using a “Shahed” missile. The head of the Defense Council also warned of possible new strikes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the attack.
He said the attack occurred in two waves: about half an hour after the first strike and the resulting fire, Russian attack drones struck the rescue workers again.

“My condolences to the families and loved ones. Such strikes are nothing short of a terrorist act. And the world must respond accordingly—with real pressure on the aggressor. For there to be peace, Russia must be held truly accountable,” the head of state wrote.
